Top 10 Best Waterproof Bluetooth Headphones

We've made the leap and reviewed the top waterproof headphones, allowing you to be confident that you are picking the absolute best headphones. A lot of sports headphones are indeed marketed as being more or less resistant to water, but when you need to add a motivational playlist or an instructional podcast to your workout, this is far from the only factor to consider.

A lot of people enjoy working out, and listening to their preferred tunes at the same time is the cherry on top of the cake. But there are certainly those who feel that exercising on a consistent basis is something they struggle to enjoy.

However, suppose there was a product that could make exercising more enjoyable too? That would give them the opportunity to exercise, work out, ride their bike anywhere they like and not need to be worried about the weather or getting their headphones wet.

Well, there is! Now we got the top waterproof headphones. Obviously, they are completely common for us in this day and age, yet imagine that you could have made this idea twenty years ago? The technology available to us today is amazing. So let's take a deeper dive into the best waterproof Bluetooth headphones on the market and find the perfect headphones for you.

Some function like conventional in-ear headphones, whereas others use bone-conduction technology to deliver sound smoothly while not blocking your ear canal, allowing you to still hear surrounding sounds.

If you intend to work up a sweat, you should be confident that you're wearing a pair that can get wet. That's where we come in. We test a host of different headphones year after year, ranging from noise-canceling models designed to block out the outside world to headphones for skiing designed to endure sweat and other liquids and still supply the music that will keep you energized as you work out. We offer advice on things to consider when shopping for waterproof headphones and highlight the best models we've tested.

Who should buy waterproof headphones?

  • Swimmers, paddle boarders, and people who spend a lot of time close to water.
  • More generally, these waterproof earphones are perfect for sportsmen and heavily sweating people.
  • Music lover who loves to use headphones in the shower instead of speakers

What makes Bluetooth headphones waterproof?

Waterproof headphones use a hydrophobic coating to protect them from water. There are different types of coatings from different manufacturers (e.g. Liquipel, NanoProof, nanoCare, etc.), but they all generally do the same job.

But how do you know which type of coating is the best?

Look for the IPX rating.

The higher the rating, the better. It ranges from 1 to 9. The lower protection class is only suitable for sweat, while the higher protection classes gradually become fully waterproof.

What is an IPX rating

IP means Ingress Protection and is also known as International Protection. IPX classification is the label that specifies the degree of protection from water, dust and etc. IPX may also indicate that the item is "weatherproof", "waterproof" or "dustproof".

The degree of protection against penetration of solid particles or objects is specified by the first number/letter. When there is no information on the degree of protection against the ingress of solid particles, the letter X is written on the product, which specifies that it is a waterproof device. Conversely, if the device does not provide any protection, then the first symbol should be 0.

There are various levels of protection ranging from 0 to 8 against the penetration of solid particles. When the first number is after IP 5, the unit is protected against slight splashing water. When the first number is after IP 7, the unit is completely protected against immersion in water to a depth of 1 m.

What do the various levels of IPX rating mean?

The higher the IPX rating, the stronger the resistance. Below is a list that illustrates the IPX rating and what it signifies.

Zero/no protection

Provides protection against water drops

Provides protection against vertical water dripping

Provides protection against splashing water up to 60°

Provides protection against water spray

Provides protection against water blasts

Provides protection against powerful jets of water

Provides protection in water up to 3 feet for 30 minutes

Provides protection when immersed in water over 3 feet. The precise depth is indicated by the manufacturer

Jaybird Vista - best for regular runners, fitness center goers, or even audiophiles

Jaybird Vista - best for regular runners, fitness center goers, or even audiophiles

Vista 2 feature a far softer and better-balanced sound signature in comparison to their previous model. These are still powerful, yet not bloated.

Thanks to the ear slats, the earbuds maintain the outstanding sturdiness of the first generation. Resistance is now even greater, with a waterproof design that complies with IP68 and MIL-STD-810G standards for earbuds. Even the charging housing this time has a protection class of IP54.

Jaybird's new wireless earbuds come with some extra functions, like ambient mode and active noise reduction.

The active noise reduction performs well in canceling low-level noises but has problems at higher frequencies. Nevertheless, the sound reduction feature will help cut down on motor sounds while you commute.

The Jaybird app features a wide range of customization possibilities for EQ and controls. The earbuds use physical buttons, making them more comforting than touch controls.

+ Pros:

  • Superb, out-of-the-box sound
  • Outstanding comfort and strength
  • Highly durable with waterproof charging housing
  • Great battery life
  • High-performance companion app
  • Good active noise cancellation

- Cons:

TOZO T10 TWS Earbuds - Best Budget Waterproof Headphones

TOZO T10 TWS Earbuds - Best Budget Waterproof Headphones

The most important thing first: we were shocked by the price of these shower headphones when we compare them with their quality and performance. Both the TOZO T10 Bluetooth 5.0 wireless headphones and charging case are IPX8 certified. The in-ear headphones and charging case have a nano-coating that protects them from water, sweat, dust, and so on. The brand proudly claims that you can wash the earphones and case without worrying about damaging them, but we haven't tested that. You can if you want to.

Also, the in-ear headphones are equipped with the latest Bluetooth version 5.0, so we didn't experience any connection issues. No delays, no disconnects, absolutely nothing. Simple and straightforward pairing in one step.

Third, the audio performance was amazing. We absolutely adored the bass and the well-balanced audio. Lastly, the earbuds are cozy and fit nicely in the ears. The gel-flexible silicone ear tips have a soft and supple touch. You can use them as invisible earplugs as well! The earplugs are offered in 5 colors - black, blue, gray, white, and khaki.

+ Pros:

  • Premium build quality
  • Flawless performance

Plantronics BackBeat FIT – great for swimming in the pool

Plantronics BackBeat FIT – great for swimming in the pool

We want to note that these headphones are designed for swimming pool use only and are not suited for swimming in the sea. If you enjoy swimming in the sea and would like Bluetooth-enabled headphones, then these headphones will not be appropriate. But they do feature a protecting nano-coating that shields from water and sweat, so they are great for use in the pool and at the gym.

They feature controls on the ear for music listening and Bluetooth connections to your phone. The audio is pretty decent, with the bass and treble being quite prominent. The battery is sufficient for approximately eight hours of use.

A nice thing about these phones is they have integrated safety functions that let you not just listen to your music but notice what's going on around you. How often have you seen someone running around with a phone that you realize they are unable to hear anything except the music.

If you are in search of some earphones that function fine in a wide variety of circumstances, a few of which include water or sweat, then these are well worth considering.

+ Pros:

  • Suitable for use in the swimming pool
  • You can hear what is happening around you

- Cons:

  • Not appropriate for swimming in the sea

Mpow Flame – the best price-performance ratio

Mpow Flame – the best price-performance ratio

The Mpow Flame waterproof headphones follow a rather classic design approach to waterproof earphone construction. Certainly, the case is tougher still, yet it's much slimmer when compared to others on this list. The ear hooks ensure a snug fit by spreading the weight and pressure around the back of the ear.

In terms of sound performance, the company tuned the Flame to be bass-heavy. In addition, it only needs 1.5 hours for the Flame to be fully charged; allowing for 7-9 hours of listening time. Considering the headphones are so budget-friendly, there are a lot of supplies that come with the Flame, including foam earbuds, a carrying bag, a cable clip to fit the cable, and replacement earbuds. When you want a trusted fit for your waterproof earphones, Mpow is the way to go.

+ Pros:

  • Awesome design
  • IPX7 waterproof, meaning the Mpow Flame headphones can be submerged up to 1 meter underwater
  • ~8 hours of battery runtime. Meaning they're enough for a week's worth of training or nearly a whole day's worth of hiking.
  • Extremely convenient to wear

- Cons:

  • They stick out quite a bit, so it might be a concern if you're wearing anything like a beanie to cover your ears

Jaybird X4 - Superior quality waterproof headphones

Jaybird X4 - Superior quality waterproof headphones

The headphones are sweat and waterproof. Thus, you can use them according to your needs. They are perfect for exercising in the gym and for running (even in rainy conditions).

Secondly, these are one of the most comfortable headphones on our list. The earbuds don't dig deep into your ear canal. No, this doesn't imply that they drop or fall out all the time; in fact, we have used the Jaybird X4 when running and had no issues at all. The headphones feature a sports-friendly design and are also quite lightweight. The rechargeable battery holds for up to 8 hours in a row, although it doesn't come with a separate charging case. Charging is only an option via the supplied cable.

+ Pros:

  • Comfortable and long-lasting
  • Lightweight
  • Offered in 2 color versions
  • Sweatproof and waterproof
  • Available with equalizing app
  • Outstanding sound quality; excellent bass
  • Great battery life

- Cons:

  • Microphone lacks noise isolation
  • Earbuds do not provide noise cancellation support

Jabra Elite Sport – Best true wireless

Jabra Elite Sport – Best true wireless

If you want the newest and best and you have a passionate contempt for anything wired, then the Jabra Elite Sport True Wireless is perfect for you. It comes with a wide range of earbuds, including both silicone and memory foam options. Battery life may not be stellar (three hours), though thanks to the charging case, you can charge the earbuds two times before you need to go in hunt of a micro USB cable.

In terms of truly wireless earbuds, the Elite Sport succeed in keeping a decent connection which was only occasionally disconnected while testing. The Jabra Sport app gathers a lot of data from the Elite Sport's heart rate sensor. If you like, you can hear a workout coach in your right ear that grades your workout based on your effort.

These earbuds have no built-in memory, however, making them inappropriate for swimming. But when you carry your smartphone and these earbuds with you for a paddle, there's no need to be concerned about them dropping in accidentally.

+ Pros:

  • Great connection
  • A lot of health features

- Cons:

  • Cost
  • Sound quality

JBL Endurance Peak II - Best for big bass

JBL Endurance Peak II - Best for big bass

JBL keeps delivering premium quality, waterproof and gym-friendly styles for its wireless range of products. The Endurance Peak II headphones are great for anyone searching for a bass-driven sound and an IPX7 rating.

The JBL Endurance Peak II True Wireless are sports headphones that feature a one-of-a-kind earbud-style design that holds them firmly in place while you work out. Their bass-driven sound profile adds an extra boost and punches to your preferred tunes. Although they do not feature an active noise-canceling feature, they do an excellent job of keeping background noise passively isolated, meaning you will not hear the chatter of everyone else at the gym. Sadly, particularly if your ears are smaller, they may not always be sufficiently comfortable to wear for prolonged periods of time. But they are highly compact, and thanks to the charging case, you can easily charge them on the go.

Overall, the JBL Endurance Peak 2 is a terrific workout buddy. The IPX7 rating gives relief to even the sweatiest of people.

+ Pros:

  • Strong, bass-driven audio signature
  • Completely waterproof construction

- Cons:

The earbuds will hold up for 10 hours with a full battery charge, longer than similar wireless earbuds. When the earphones are dead, you will be able to recharge them in 10 minutes and continue using them for one more hour. A range of earphone sizes is included. Best waterproof headphones: notable mentions

Bang & Olufsen Beoplay E8 Sport

The Bang & Olufsen is among the finest sounding and good-looking sports headphones on the market. The only drawback is that they are still somewhat bulky despite the wingtips and can become detached during moving activities.

Best waterproof wireless Bluetooth headphones - Buying Guide

So you want to get headphones that can connect with Bluetooth and are waterproof for some purpose. Typically, that reason is that you will be using them for workouts, jogging or athletics, or perhaps a swim in the pool. These are all activities where you want some kind of power from the unit. We are going to take it that they are not designed only for the shower?

The level of activity will guide your decision. It makes quite a significant difference whether you walk ten minutes to the store and back one time a day as we do. A workout for a marathon - definitely not us! This difference, and all that lies in the middle, greatly assists in choosing the right one for you.

What kind of activity?

This also has a big impact, because if you go swimming, the range is much lower and the water resistance is much higher. We have not tested products that can be used for swimming in the sea, so we are only talking about possible laps in the pool.

Of course, comfort also plays a role, and therefore you need to pay attention to the materials used and the way they are attached to the ear. Is there a supportive clip, magnets in the earpieces so they can be clipped together when not in use and not have wires dangling everywhere? Do they offer enough options to change the fit? Do they come with wires at all or are they just earbuds?

And for how long are they going to be in use? You might want a reasonable battery life unless you are going to charge them daily.

Many questions to take into account in determining the proper product for you.

But there is a range of headphones on the list that will fit your demands, from the biggest names to the smaller ones. While there are a couple of great small products out there, they are all appropriate for the type of activity you are interested in.

It's certainly not an easy choice, as there are a number of excellent choices offered at a very reasonable cost.

For us, we are looking for something durable and strong. Not too expensive, since we will only use them for a short time. Good sound is fine, as we don't want more, and decent connectivity - simply a little bit of all-around quality in every area.

Therefore, as the top waterproof Bluetooth headphones, we have the... Treblab X3 Pro

Comfortable fit, great audio, lovely styling, and great connectivity. They get the job done at a really competitive cost.

Can you swim with Bluetooth headphones?

Yes, but with some restrictions. While waterproof wireless headphones are water-resistant, the water doesn't bother them. Hold your head over the water's surface, since Bluetooth doesn't function underwater. And place your phone within Bluetooth reach close by for a powerful connection.

Is it possible to take a shower with waterproof Bluetooth headphones?

Definitely. Just be sure they're a minimum of IPX6 waterproof to avoid getting damaged in the shower. Also, hold your smartphone close to maintain an uninterrupted signal.

How to use my phone with waterproof headphones?

Hold it near the Bluetooth range for an uninterrupted signal (10 m / 30 feet) and out of the water. If there is a chance that the phone gets wet, get a decent waterproof phone case or waterproof smartphone and hold it over water, since Bluetooth will not work underwater.

How reliable are waterproof headphones?

Just like any other electronic gadget, waterproof headphones come with their own timetable with a time limit by which you need to let go of them. But that doesn't imply that they aren't reliable - if properly maintained and fixed in a timely manner, they can serve you for many years when you need them. Clearly, the greater the quality of your waterproof headphones, the more likely they are to stay with you for a long time.
